Sano Nggoang Crater Lake: Indonesia’s Hidden Gem of Depth and Beauty

Sano Nggoang Crater Lake, nestled 45 km southeast of Labuan Bajo, is a remarkable sulfur lake that stretches across approximately 5,500 hectares of land. Not only is it renowned for its breathtaking expanse, but it also boasts remarkable depths, plunging to around 500 meters, making it one of the world’s deepest lakes. Moreover, it proudly holds the title of being the largest lake within the Nusa Tenggara Province.

This extraordinary lake is neighbored by quaint villages where local communities reside. Despite their proximity to the lake, their livelihoods have yet to depend on its resources. However, with the burgeoning growth of tourism in West Manggarai, Sano Nggoang Crater Lake has started gaining recognition among travelers, drawing more frequent visits.

Embarking on a journey to this pristine lake is akin to an off-road adventure, as the path to reach this remote destination is notoriously challenging.

While Flores Discovery has not yet organized trips to this remarkable lake due to its demanding accessibility, we eagerly anticipate better access in the future. Once the infrastructure improves, we will be thrilled to offer unforgettable experiences at Sano Nggoang Crater Lake to our adventurous explorers. Stay tuned for future updates on this exciting prospect!
